PROTECTING OUR HERITAGE

rondawsoncorby

The Ron Dawson Hall has a significant place in Corby Glen history. Bought and built largely by public subscription from the village in the 90s, it was intended as a sports and social venue for local people.

Gradually its use for sports has declined, although recently a local football club has started to use the field every week. It has also been the home of the village Pre-School for many years and generations of local children have had their introduction to education there.

A party venue, a meeting place, the Hall has many uses and potentially a strong future with the new housing estate on its doorstep.

However, the responsibility for running it devolves to 4 committee members which is not enough to let it fulfil its potential, and the committee remains 1 resignation from disaster. 3 pensioner volunteers would not be enough to keep it running and closure would become a significant possibility.

I don’t believe Corby Glen would want the Hall to collapse. Not while many young children are taught there and many more play organised club football there.

I do believe that there are people in the community who want to see this wonderful village flourish and would be prepared to invest some of their time in helping to run this important community asset.

If you are one of those people, please contact us at : rondawson.corby@gmail.com.
